Engagements

It was such a joy to meet Samantha and Dave for the first time! I love their enthusiasm and their patience as we waited through months of new restrictions and finally the parks department issuing our permit for their engagement session. It finally happened and we had perfect weather too! A Washington DC Engagement session isn’t the same without at least one monument in the background but we were blessed with not as many people there either! Oh the joys of photographing in DC during government shut downs!

Lincoln Memorial Engagement

Samantha and Dave are huge sports fanatics. They’ve gone to endless Capitals hockey and Nationals baseball games and have had a few arguments over whether UVA or Maryland sports are better! In fact, their first official date was a Capitals hockey game. So an engagement session in the heat of D.C. was the perfect fit for these two.

Samantha and Dave walked with me from the Lincoln Memorial to the World War One Memorial and even though the Washington Monument and Martin Luther King Jr. Monument are off limits for sessions right now, we still managed to get the Washington Monument in the background. The weather fluctuated between sun and clouds but it just made for some different kinds of images!

I can’t wait to celebrate with these two next year at the Chef Boyardee mansion!!! Now let’s hear their proposal stories!

From Samantha’s perspective:

“Dave and I first met at a mutual friend’s party in July 2016. I remember thinking he was super funny and enthusiastic about everything he spoke of (and he still is). He was very memorable and I was excited to see him again at the same mutual friend’s birthday party a few months later in November. Luckily, we had the opportunity to get to know each other better the second time around. We bonded over our love for the DC area, college sports, and spending quality time with our family. From there, the rest was history and Dave made dating so fun with the many creative dates he thought of.

I’ve always been in awe of how thoughtful and caring he is. He’s so passionate about everything he’s involved in, especially his relationships. This is why it was easy for me to say yes when he proposed on December 1, 2019 while we were in Puerto Vallarta with my parents. Although I had an inkling that he would pop the question on this trip, I was overwhelmed with emotion and joy when it finally happened.

He set up a beautiful private lunch at a restaurant called Le Kliff, which overlooks the beautiful ocean and mountains of Puerto Vallarta. There was a photographer there to take “family photos” of all of us. The photographer then told Dave and I that we should take some couples photos and he had me turn around and close my eyes. When I turned back around Dave was on one knee and my parents were cheering in the background. It was a very special moment I’ll remember forever. I’m so thankful that he had a photographer to capture the special moment and the first pictures of us as an engaged couple! It was also really good practice for getting comfortable for our engagement shoot and future wedding photos! We’re so excited!”

EEK! Me too!

And from David’s perspective:

“These two lovebirds met through a mutual friend in July 2016 as they prepared for a night out on the town in DC. While Samantha didn’t stick around long enough that night for Dave to swoop in, Dave sure did notice Samantha and how her personality lit up the room. Destiny led them to meet again in November 2016, and this time, Dave didn’t let the chance pass him up. That night they popped champagne at the Graham Georgetown, but champagne wasn’t the only thing making them bubbly.

Over the next few months, the two couldn’t be found apart. From attending DC sports games to singing duets at karaoke nights, they realized their bond was special. Their connection wasn’t just about their experiences, but their shared values with regard to family and faith. Throughout their relationship, that faith has been tested. David tragically lost his father in May 2019 to Stage 4 Prostate Cancer, but Samantha’s love and support remained unwavered. It is this unconditional love that grows them closer, even when life gets tough.”
