Charlottesville is known around the world as a destination wedding location. And is it any wonder?! The greater Charlottesville area blends the lovely, lush wine country with the backdrop of the splendid Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s the perfect place for a luxury Virginia wedding combined with all the charm of the quiet country. Southern Living even said, “If you’re deciding on the location for a wedding, Charlottesville is the perfect backdrop for a destination wedding.” I can’t imagine a lovelier affair than a wedding at any one of the Charlottesville wedding venues.
There are so many incredible Charlottesville wedding venues to chose from. From the grandeur of Keswick Hall to the rolling hills and vines of King Family Vineyards, Charlottesville Wedding venues have all the amenities, luxuries and views! From the intimate gardens of Waterperry Farm and Gardens to the winery weddings at Pippin Hill, one can’t help but envision their Big Day at one of the many wedding venues in the Charlottesville area. Brides magazine said of Pippin Hill, “This beauty is a standout in wine country, thanks to its rustic-meets-chic barn, mountain views, and getting-ready suites for the bride and groom.” It’s the perfect place to propose as well!
King Family Vineyards is another lovely spot for a Charlottesville wedding. It has a wonderful reception space and gorgeous rolling mountain views. From their website, “Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, guests will enjoy panoramic mountain views, a charming Carriage House, and award-winning wines.”
Veritas Winery is another gorgeous location. They feature a variety of indoor and outdoor event spaces along with the stunning views of the winery. Veritas is known for its wine and is also a sought after location for saying “I do.” It is also one of the Charlottesville wedding venues that books very quickly so don’t delay!
Early Mountain Vineyards is another favorite of mine. It’s beautiful inside and out. A wedding at Early Mountain Vineyards includes panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and an indoor reception in their stunning event hall. With rustic fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, and the potential for unending candlelight, you can’t help but fall in love.
Another one of the infamous Charlottesville wedding venues is Trump Winery. From their website, “Our beautiful, private estate setting is the perfect backdrop to enhance your vision. Situated on nearly 1,300 acres, you will be blown away by the stunning panoramas of Blue Ridge views, 227 acres of vines, and large lakes. Just minutes from downtown Charlottesville and historic homes Monticello and Highland, weddings at Trump Winery are truly extraordinary.”
Waterperry Farm and Gardens is another incredible place for an intimate wedding or stunning engagement session. The perfectly manicured gardens seem endless and the way the light falls at golden hour is not to be missed! Every season at Waterperry is beautiful! It is my place of choice if you are searching for one of the more intimate Charlottesville wedding venues.
The Clifton Inn is another show stopper of a venue. From their website, “With historic charm, breathtaking views and modern yet elegant sophistication, The Clifton has become one of the most iconic wedding venues in Charlottesville, Virginia.” I would agree! The Clifton can also be reserved for a day or the entire weekend.
Another lovely spot to tie the knot (especially UVA alumni) is at any of the special locations at UVA itself. The University of Virginia offers several locations for engagement sessions and weddings. From Darden’s North Grounds to the Newcomb Hall Ballroom, UVA’s venue choices offer the perfect combination between collegiate romance and the historical charm of downtown Charlottesville.
Mount Ida Farm is another lovely spot for a Charlottesville wedding. This venue boasts a large and lovely Lodge, an event barn and coming soon will be the Water’s Edge, combining rustic charm and coastal elegance. I can’t wait to see the newest part of this standout venue in a sea of Charlottesville wedding venues!
Do you want to venture just a bit outside of Charlottesville area even more but still stay in the foothills of those Blue Ridge peaks? Here are a few more of my favorites…
Imagine your wedding day at a luxurious boutique bed and breakfast just north of Charlottesville, complete with a salt water pool, gorgeous grounds and a separate reception hall. Welcome to one of the most romantic Virginia wedding venues. Welcome to Walden Hall. “Walden Hall offers a literary-inspired space for couples to exchange their vows. Named after Henry David Thoreau’s famous Walden, this farmland property allows couples and their guests to slip away to the serene Virginia countryside. Here at this farm, couples will be surrounded by 10 acres. Even though the setting is quite private, you will be able to easily access downtown Charlottesville, Culpepper, Madison, and Washington D.C.” – Walden Hall
Now, picture your wedding day at an historic manor house with rooftop views of the Virginia countryside. Located just an hour from Charlottesville, Rixey Manor is an exclusive use Virginia wedding venue for the elegant, romantic couple. The manor boasts four charming bedrooms, ceremony space in front of the manor or on the rooftop, a white and bright ballroom, as well as a permanent tent pad in the back of the manor. With these unique ceremony possibilities, you’re sure to choose the one perfectly tailored for your day.
The Market at Grelen in Orange County, Virginia is another hidden gem of the Piedmont. Set on Grelen’s 600-acre tree nursery, The Market at Grelen is a magical wedding venue. It’s panoramic views and “Secret Garden” appeal are paired perfectly with its bluestone terrace and gorgeous tent facility as well.
Old House Vineyards is another favorite of mine. It’s located about ten minutes from my house as well! In Culpeper County, Virginia, Old House boasts the best wine and spirits and is also home to one of the most lovely vineyards in the state. It’s walkway to the ceremony spot is one of a kind and it’s sunset over the pond just can’t be beat.
Head up towards Harrisonburg and you will find another one of my favorite winery wedding spaces. The Columns at Six Penny Farm is the premiere wedding venue in the Shenandoah Valley. It offers the vineyard as well as a picturesque sweeping view of the mountains. Located on a private farm, it boasts stunning Jeffersonian architecture, expansive open lawns, and a stately hall for receptions. And the Massanutten Peak is the perfect backdrop for your golden hour portraits.
Planning a wedding is so enjoyable when you can visit any of these and more Charlottesville wedding venues. Sometimes it’s worth driving off the beaten path a bit too. Be sure to check out the Charlottesville Wedding Venues page (I will be adding more to it as well!), the Virginia Winery Weddings page, the Rixey Manor Weddings page and the Walden Hall Weddings page.
