I never took the opportunity to blog about my experience with Styled Shoots Across America. That’s mostly because of my hand surgery. So I wanted to share some images from this lovely venue…Cairnwood.
Cairnwood was built by Scottish immigrant, John Pitcairn who began his career as a telegraph operator, working his way up to Superintendent on a branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He invested in Pennsylvania oil, coal, and natural gas and made his fortune during the “oil boom” of the 1870s. As cofounder of Pittsburgh Plate Glass, John Pitcairn was one of the leading industrialists of his time and often traveled abroad and throughout the United States. He built Cairnwood Estate in 1895 as a home for his beloved wife and their children. His wife, Gertrude died just three years after moving into Cairnwood. Heartbroken, John never remarried but lived in Cairnwood until his death in 1916. One of his children reopened Cairnwood’s doors for gatherings in the late 1940s and upon her death in 1979, the Pitcairn family donated Cairnwood Estate to the Academy of the New Church. According to Cairwood’s website, “Cairnwood remained empty for a more than a decade before beginning its transition into the National Historic Landmark it is today. Although modifications were made through the generations, the home has been predominantly restored to its original 1895 appearance.” A host of steadfast employees and volunteers continue to work to preserve Cairnwood Estate for the enjoyment of future generations.”
Today Cairnwood also serves as a spectacular setting for weddings and special events. It is an architectural gem from the Gilded Age with gorgeous gardens and stunning interiors. There is an outdoor water fountain, covered veranda, 110 foot terrace and six historic rooms for us within just the first floor.
Cairnwood is truly an historic estate worth touring and hosting a wedding. It was a joy to visit this area and this lovely estate. Styled Shoots Across America hosted a shoot crawl that spanned many of these spaces at the estate. Thank you to these wonderful wedding professionals who put this together! And keep scrolling to see highlights from my day there.
