A Walden Hall Virginia wedding is a wonderful way to kick off the 2019 wedding season! After blocking off the first part of 2019 to recover from surgery (which finally happened at the end of March!), it was a joy to pick up the camera again. What Virginia wedding photographer wouldn’t want to kick off the season at a place as lovely as Walden Hall? Fortunately, I couldn’t ask for a sweeter couple either.

Due to some occupational restrictions, I am limited as to what I can share from A + K’s Big Day. So you won’t see several things including but not limited to the invitations, several key moments, golden hour with the couple and even K’s face. But I hope you can still feel the love! There were so many beautiful moments that will go unseen by the readers of this post, but A + K truly get the gold!

This incredible day began with some lovely details and the bride preparing in the bridal suite. She was surrounded by her team as well as her mother as she got ready to see her father for the first time that day.

It was an absolutely precious first look between father and daughter, full of hugs and a few tears.

No wedding at Walden Hall is complete without some bridal portraits in the Walt Whitman fainting suite!

Before heading outside, “A” also needed to share an impromptu first look with Nana!

And then of course, it was time for some incredible bridal portraits outside on the Walden Hall lawn.

This was followed by portraits with her lovely ladies, who made the most beautiful bride tribe!

I would show you more if I could, but “K” also prepared for the day with his men before both bride and groom prepared for their first look…

Their First Look was one for the books! After the first look, they shared some special time for their first portraits of the day TOGETHER!

The ceremony space was so beautifully decorated and the pond was the perfect backdrop on a windy but sunny day. The military wedding was stunning, complete with a sword send-off!

After some group portraits, the cocktail hour was in full swing. When it was time for the reception, everyone enjoyed dinner, drinks and dancing in the Walden Hall reception space.

Every detail was perfect, from the greenery to the cake table!

Our couple enjoyed a very sweet first dance as well as welcoming speeches from their dads and a shared blessing from their mothers.

The night wouldn’t be complete without the most touching and also hilarious toasting, a lovely golden hour with their pup and the Moo Thru ice cream truck!

It was an unforgettable wedding day and the start to a beautiful marriage! So how did this sweet romance begin?

A + K attended the same university but didn’t meet until the end of K’s senior year. One night, “A” decided to go out with her sorority sisters to a party with his fraternity and ended up meeting him. They talked for a bit that night, but “A” had just come out of a longer relationship and told “K” that she still had a boyfriend. In “A”’s words:

“Big mistake! He didn’t want to mess with that! We saw each other randomly at a bar the next month, then the grocery store the month after that. But we still didn’t have each others numbers! Finally one of my friends ended up giving him my number and that began the best summer ever! Neither of us were looking for a relationship because he was going away for Marine Corps training, but we couldn’t stop hanging out! We bonded instantly and became best friends. As time went on we just never stopped hanging out and now we get to spend the rest of our lives together and we couldn’t be happier!”

How did he propose?

“We were hiking up our favorite mountain and “K” had planned the hike so I was a little suspicious since I’m usually the planner. We got to the top and were just hanging out enjoying the incredible view. He offered to take a picture for a couple that was taking selfies, knowing they would then offer to take a picture for us. He took the pictures and then just as he thought, they offered to take ours.

We posed and took about five normal pictures when he spoke to the couple, ‘Okay, now please keep taking pictures. I need you to help me with something.’ He got down on one knee, took the box out of his pocket and said ‘A, will you marry me?’ It was amazing! The funniest part was that the woman taking the pictures just happened to be a wedding photographer!!! So needless to say we got some pretty incredible pictures!”

Congratulations A + K! It was a pleasure to serve you and your families and friends! Keep scrolling to see more highlights from their day as well as the amazing wedding professionals who helped make it all happen!
