Matt and Kaitlyn have been waiting for this day for a long time! Then their original wedding date last year was rescheduled to 2021 due to the government restrictions. Not only did they face the challenges of planning a Virginia wedding while living in Louisville, but they had to now reschedule into a new year. But Memorial Day weekend held a special place in their hearts. They met on the Jersey shore on a Memorial Day weekend and their wedding proposal was also on a Memorial Day weekend. So it made perfect sense to host their Virginia wedding on this special weekend.

Matt and Kaitlyn also aren’t strangers to extreme challenges, but it’s hard not to feel a pang of sadness when it’s raining AND cold on your May 29th wedding day. One might expect rain in Virginia in May, but coupled with the cold, it came as quite an unwelcome surprise. But they did have the joy of preparing for the day in the comfort of Kaitlyn’s family’s home.

Their day began with their friends and family surrounding them and it ended the same. In fact, they were not short of personal cheerleaders from the beginning to the end. Kaitlyn’s vision of a warm, family-filled day still came to fruition, rain and all.

The home was covered in late Spring greens with lovely landscaping and gorgeous bouquets from Good Earth Flowers. Kaitlyn had the assistance of her mother and her maid of honor as she prepared for the Big Day.

She also surprised her bridesmaids and her dad with her stunning gown from Kleinfeld Bridal, which was the PERFECT choice for her!

Matt also prepared with his guys and donned his wedding attire in a room on another level of the house.

Because of the rain forecast, they went ahead with their first look a little early. This worked out so very well because of the timing of the rain. Matt was ready to see his beautiful bride for the first time that day.

When he saw Kaitlyn, it was magical! And it was pretty evident that he couldn’t be happier to marry his best friend on this incredible day!

The two shared some special time together for romantic couples’ portraits in front of this floral flocked tree.

It was a perfect way to capture their love!

Kaitlyn also posed for some bridal portraits both outside and then on the porch when the rain came in.

Matt soon joined Kaitlyn on the porch for some more photos together.

Matt posed for some portraits of the dapper groom as well!

And we couldn’t forget that lovely veil…

Their immediate families also posed for family portraits on the bright and airy front porch. You’d never even guess it was raining!

It was soon time for their ceremony. Kaitlyn’s niece made the sweetest little flower girl and she took her roll seriously!

Seven, the dog, also gave one final warning before Matt got choked up seeing his bride walk down the aisle!

It was such a joyous moment to witness these two coming together to commit for life!

Hearing their officiant speak of their relationship, their challenges and their joys…I mean wow! How one day Matt was going to his weekly basketball game and planning to propose to Kaitlyn and the next minute their lives were completely changed. To read more about their story, head over to their engagement session blog post HERE.

Matt also planned something special…with the help of his best guys, he had decided to read his vows to Kaitlyn standing up. Watching his devotion for her as he spoke his words of love to Kaitlyn didn’t leave many dry eyes. In fact, I don’t think anyone was paying attention to the rain anymore.

Matt shared his vows in one of the sweetest ceremony moments I’ve seen.

They also exchanged rings and Kaitlyn said her vows to Matt. Tears again…I don’t where the rain ended and the tears began for most of us present!

And then it was time for their officiant to pronounce them husband and wife. Kaitlyn and Matt could not contain their excitement!

They began the recessional back down the aisle to cheers and claps alike!

After the ceremony, as cocktail hour began, they posed for some photos with their wedding party.

Kaitlyn also posed with her ladies and Matt with his men before we photographed the extended family formals.

As cocktail hour progressed, the final touches to the tent and reception space were made courtesy of the team at Tilly and Teal and Bluewater Catering.

The custom tent from Virginia Tent Rental was just the perfect size to keep everyone cozy.

Every sweet detail reflected their palette of soft blues and lush greens.

After the bridal party was introduced, Kaitlyn and Matt made their way into the reception, welcomed by cheers, claps and whistles!

Kaitlyn and Matt danced their first dance together as husband and wife, and again…tears all around!

I really don’t know if any first dance will be able to top this one from here on out.

After their first dance, we heard toasts from the best man, maid of honor (as well as a short serenade) and the Kaitlyn’s brother. I love this part of the evening when we get to know more about the couple.

It’s always fun to hear childhood stories from a sibling as well!

The parent dances were also another tear jerker. This momma can’t help herself when I see a mom dancing with her grown son on his wedding day!

The evening held more dancing and fun as well as an ice cream truck from local favorite, Moo Thru.

Their guests were more than ready to hit the dance floor as well!

And just before leaving, Kaitlyn and Matt shared a sparkler celebration with their bridal party outside of the tent and the rain had subsided.

Congratulations Kaitlyn and Matt! I can’t thank you enough for the honor of photographing your wedding day! I hope to hear more of your adventures together.

Thank you!

And thank you to these wonderful wedding professionals who helped make their day so very special!
