Alexandria Engagement Session

If you’ve followed me long enough, you know that Old Town Alexandria is one of my favorite spots for an engagement session. And this was no exception. We had to postpone our first scheduled day due to extreme cold. So we met at the Starbucks on Union Street for time to chat on a MUCH warmer evening! I really liked Jamie and Jason from the start and it was pretty exciting to finally meet them in person. We had a wonderful time chatting about their wedding plans and all that lies ahead in the process.

Alexandria

We enjoyed the cobblestone streets and the beauty of the historic city. And we made our way to the Wilkes Street Tunnel, which was just filled with stunning spots along the way.

I love the chemistry between Jamie and Jason as well as their very sweet friendship. What a special pair they truly are! I can’t wait for their wedding day this Fall because I am really looking forward to spending more time serving them. What a wonderful evening it was! Keep scrolling to hear more of their love and proposal story as well as highlights from their Alexandria engagement session.

Jason, how did you and Jamie meet?

Our love story is unique (as most love stories are). Jamie and I were like ships passing in the night for much of college. We had similar friends, went to the same school (Virginia Tech, go Hokies!) and even probably attended the same parties. But it wasn’t until our mutual friend Michelle threw a going-away party that we met for the first time. Jamie was wearing a cute Aztec print dress. Combined with her gorgeous smile and a little bit of alcohol and dancing, she was irresistible. The rest as they say is history (in the making).

Since then we’ve been on trips around the country together. We have found mutual love cooking meals for each other, attending concerts together and finding joy in discovering life’s little moments together. Always with a smile on each other’s face.

So what was your proposal plan?

The proposal in a nut shell was like: “Great Expectations” meets “True Grit”. My original plan was to propose on a Napa vineyard mountainside as the sun set. Buttttt that was a little too obvious. I’ve always been a firm believer in surprises. So, the Plan B was to propose to her at Breaux Winery out in Purceville, with her friends and my parents and sister waiting (hiding) to surprise her afterwards. But the night before we went out to a friend’s house and had a few drinks. We came back to our apartment to sleep, but I (who knew what was coming) sat in bed, nerves set in and I didn’t sleep a wink.

How did you pop the question?

So as dawn creeped in through the blinds, I had no idea what I was going to do. A little later while Jamie was getting ready for the winery in our apartment (and freaking out about getting there on time), I decided to be even more unpredictable. I asked her: “Jamie I have a present for you before we go to the winery, do you want it now or later?” She shook her head and said “It’s up to you babe.” I decided to give her the present. It was a handmade photo album filled with pictures from our 5-year relationship and quotes of all the reasons I love her. She started to flip through it, tears forming at the corner of her eyes.

As she neared the final page which said “The last reason that I love you is that there is more to come…but first” I told her to stop, ran into the bedroom and grabbed the ring. While her eyes were still closed, I got down on one knee and told her to open her eyes and asked her to marry me. She immediately started bawling tears of joy and said yes. So in the end what I ended up losing sleep over turned out to be an intimate proposal instead that I wouldn’t change for anything.

Congratulations, Jamie and Jason!

Thank you for such a great time exploring one of my favorite engagement session locations! I am so excited for your Big Day this Fall. It is going to be incredible!
